I did the Inca 4-day Trail, in May of 2019, completing it just days before turning age 69 -- an age that would have disqualified me. Of course, it was one of the most incredible, and satisfying, adventures of my life! The guides and helpers (cooks, and those who carried the camp tents and equipment) were excellent! I have climbed high mountains in North and South America, as well as Europe, but this adventure was surely the best of the lot! I spent 5 days in Cusco prior to the trek, to somewhat get used to the altitude -- but also a city filled with history and fantastic restaurants that added much to my overall adventure. Now, at age 75, I look back on it with pride, and a superb sense of accomplishment!

Hi,

Thanks for your very detailed explanation. Truly greatful.

Small question: What permit do you buy to be able to hike Huayana Pichu? I don't see it listed as option in any of the permits available?

Hey, we are interested in a paragliding tour in Pisac on Wednesday. We are two people and we will already be in Pisac. So there‘s no need to be picked up in Cusco. We would like to do the Paragliding in the morning and then return to Cusco in the afternoon if it‘s possible. We read that there‘s a 45 minute flight option all the way to Cusco. Is that one available for Wednesday? Thank you.

Glad you found this helpful! You could potentially camp or stay over at the village of Wayramachay after the Salkantay Pass on Day 2, that would make the day a bit shorter. I also found Day 4 to be very long, with kids I'd suggest booking a train ticket from Hydroelectrica to Aguas Calientes so you don't have to walk that section.

Hi Caitlin, I'd recommend circuit 2 for the best overall experience. It covers all major highlights, including the Guardhouse (classic postcard view), Main Plaza, Sacred Rock, Temple of the Sun, and Intihuatana (Sun Stone), and is ideal for first-timers who want the full Machu Picchu experience.

Hi, thanks for this informative post. I am considering doing this with my 11 year old. Where possible we would add more days to give shorter walks and more rest time. Are there any accommodations in mid points of your days? Thanks in advance. E
