Best Lake Titicaca Hotels – 7 Places to Stay In Puno and Copacabana

Alison Macallister

Lake Titicaca straddles the border of Bolivia and Peru. It is the world’s highest navigable lake which can be accessed from the towns of Puno and Copacabana.

Naturally, the variety of accommodation in Lake Titicaca is not as diverse as in the bigger towns. However, during my travels, I discovered exceptionally good value for money accommodation in both Puno and Copacabana.

In this article, I will rate some of the best Lake Titicaca hotels, some of which I have stayed in too. Other accommodation options were recommended to me by fellow travellers I met during my journey.

Titicaca lodge markets itself as a homestay environment but don't let that fool you as the suites are large and luxurious. Their delicious meals are of a high-end hotel quality and prepared from fresh ingredients. The atmosphere on the water is very romantic, making it the ideal option for honeymooners

Titicaca Lodge Peru is an extremely popular accommodation on Lake Titicaca. The lodge is fully booked for weeks to months in advance, so make your reservation early!

hostal-duque-inn

The Hostal Duque Inn is a little trek up the hill with great views over Puno and the Lake. The showers are hot, and everything is very clean. Like most hostels in Puno, the building is rather rundown, so don't expect anything too fancy.

The family who runs the hostel is warm and welcoming, making you feel like you are staying in a home. They are also very accommodating and can organize an early breakfast. Be sure to let them know if you need to check out early as they usually lock the doors overnight.

hostal-los-uros

Hostal Los Uros is an affordable choice for a couple of nights. The hostel is located right in the center of town. The market is one block away and it is 5 minutes away from the main square and tourist area. The building is in need of some TLC, but the rooms are comfortable.

The couple who owns Hostal Los Uros are super sweet. Heads up - they only speak Spanish though. You can book your tours to the Titicaca Islands or ruins from here (see: Lake Titicaca underwater ruins). A basic breakfast of instant coffee or tea with bread and cheese or ham is included.

Totora B&B - Top Self-Catering Option in Copacabana

totora-bnb

Totora B&B is one of the nicest low budget stays I found in all of Latin America. It feels more like a countryside guest house offered at dorm room prices. Bernardo, the owner, is a one-man show when it comes to managing, cooking, and cleaning.

Totora B&B can be tricky to find though. Bernardo will contact you before you arrive and send an accurate location, which helps a lot.

Hot Tip: Taking an en-suite bathroom is definitely worth the extra 10 bolivianos ($1.5) per night!

I stayed in the front room at the bottom and loved the double windows overlooking the countryside.

Price: From $7 / 45 bolivianos per person

Pros

Cons

Unbeatable value

Tricky to find without a location pin

Quiet suburb

The resident dog can be noisy (she didn't approve of the local football match during my stay)

Excellent breakfast included (eggs, bacon, cereal, bread, coffee, and fruit juice)

Great pre-arrival communication

Hostal Sonia - Best Budget Hostel in Copacabana

hostal-sonia

If you are looking for cheap and cheerful accommodation in Copacabana, Hostal Sonia is the place to be! You can expect helpful staff and spotlessly clean facilities. The rooms are also heated which makes a difference in the chilly evenings.

You can store your bags here for free while you visit Isla del Sol.

Please Note: You will need to walk to get to the tourist center or the lake. Don’t worry, it's not very far (a maximum 15-minute walk).

Hostal Sonia is one of the few accommodations in Copacabana where you can pay by card. Keep in mind that card transactions are charged with an additional 5% fee though, which usually applies to most accommodation in Latin America.

Price: From $11 / 45 soles per person

Pros

Cons

Great value

Small and poorly ventilated bathrooms

Hot showers with good water pressure

Located further from the town center

Excellent breakfast

Card payments accepted

Hotel Onkel Inn Torres - Best Location in Copacabana

Hotel Onkel Inn Torres de Copacabana

Hotel Onkel Inn Torres is located right on the lake shore with amazing views over the water. This is a relaxed hotel on the higher end of Copacabana’s offerings. The staff are professional and attentive.

Copacabana is not renowned for luxury hotels. This hotel, however, is nicer and more modern than the self-catering or air-BnB options in the area. Please keep in mind that there is no heating in the rooms. If you ask the staff, you will be provided with a heater. If you are crazy about Alpacas, you will love that there are a few free roaming in the garden of the Hotel Onkel Inn Torres.

Price: Rooms from $65 / 560 Bolivianos per person

Pros

Cons

Lake views

Thin walls between the rooms

Room service

Not the most comfortable beds

Alpacas in the Garden

Pricey for what you get
